Fansly vs OnlyFans: Features, Payouts and Discoverability

The short answer: Fansly documents three things OnlyFans' terms do not describe — a For You discovery feed, several subscription tiers per page, and post permissions that let one piece of content be unlocked in more than one way. OnlyFans' terms set a 20% fee on every fan payment and a minimum payout amount they do not put a number on. Fansly publishes its payout timing (7 days pending, most requests reviewed within 48 hours) and minimums that depend on the method, from $20 to $100, but its help centre does not state its fee. If your audience already follows you from elsewhere and knows the OnlyFans name, the incumbent is the simpler choice; if you want to sell tiers and use on-platform discovery, Fansly gives you more to work with.

Discovery: what Fansly actually documents

Fansly's help centre describes its For You page as a built-in discovery system that recommends posts to fans based on their activity. Getting onto it has conditions. Locked media needs a free preview attached, or the post is not eligible; you tick Promote Post when publishing; and if your timeline is restricted to followers or subscribers, a separate setting allows internal discovery anyway. Profile tags — private labels you set — help the algorithm match you to fans who like similar content, and hashtags surface posts in search and trending topics.

The most useful detail for a creator is that you can measure it. Fansly gives every creator three built-in tracking links, one each for the For You page, account suggestions and on-platform search, alongside any links you make for your own social channels. After a month you know how many paying fans the platform found for you, rather than guessing.

OnlyFans' terms do not describe a recommendation feed, and the practical assumption for any creator there is that subscribers arrive from traffic you bring — which is why where adult creators can promote matters more than any platform feature. Monetisation tools on Fansly

The tools around it are where Fansly's help centre gets specific:

• Permissions with either-or and all-of logic. A post can be unlocked by meeting any one of several conditions — follow, or pay a one-off $10, for example — or only by meeting all of them, such as follow and pay $5.
• Locked media sold inside posts or in direct messages, using the same permission settings.
• Free trials are allowed; free lifetime subscriptions are not, though a subscription can be set to run for years.
• DM permissions that decide who can message you at all: everyone, followers, custom lists, or conditions such as being subscribed, tipping $1 per message, or having spent at least $50 on locked content.
• Automated messages triggered by a new follower, a new subscriber, a renewal or a tip, customisable per tier.
• Mass messages to lists of fans, with optional scheduling.
• A VIP inbox: mark a fan as VIP and their messages are routed to a separate inbox.
• Live streaming with viewing and chat permissions, and a Lovense extension that routes tips to a connected toy.
• Walls for organising a profile into separate collections, public or private.

OnlyFans offers subscriptions, locked messages, tips and live streaming too; the difference is the depth of the permission and tier system rather than the existence of the basics.

Payouts: timing and minimums

On Fansly, each sale is pending for exactly seven days — a sale at 1 pm on the 13th becomes available at 1 pm on the 20th. Most payout requests are reviewed within 48 hours, and the approved status can sometimes last longer than a day before processing. The minimum depends on the method, and the help centre distinguishes a hard limit (you cannot request below it) from a soft one (a smaller request waits in approved status until your approved requests add up to the minimum). Everything is paid in US dollars, so a creator banking in another currency pays their own bank's conversion rate and fees. Fansly also recommends keeping a second verified payout method — Paxum, crypto or Cosmopayment — because individual methods occasionally go down.

On OnlyFans, the terms state that the platform fee is calculated as 20% of each fan payment and deducted from it, that earnings can be withdrawn once your balance meets the minimum payout amount, that payments are transacted in USD, and that your bank or e-wallet may charge conversion fees.

Chargebacks and refunds

The row most creators skip. OnlyFans' terms say that if a fan successfully obtains a refund or chargeback, the platform may deduct an amount equal to the creator-earnings portion of that payment — the cost comes out of the creator's side. For subscribers

Four points from Fansly's own fan-side pages. Subscriptions auto-renew by default, and you turn renewal off from the cog icon on your Subscriptions page, then check the expiry date to confirm. Switching tier takes effect immediately at full price and forfeits the days left on your current tier, without a refund — so if you are only upgrading for convenience, wait until the cycle ends. Fansly charges a $5 monthly inactivity fee against a dormant wallet balance; it comes from the on-site wallet, not your card, and stops when the balance reaches zero or you log back in. And every price is in US dollars. On OnlyFans, the terms state that wallet credits are non-refundable.

The privacy layer is yours on either platform:

Which to choose

For creators with an external audience that recognises the name, OnlyFans keeps conversion simple and its terms are clear on the fee and on chargebacks.
