Before you start: check the space

Slower than USB and considerably more convenient once set up. Several file-manager applications available for standalone headsets expose the headset's storage over the local network, so a computer can copy to it without a cable.
The trade-offs are worth knowing in advance. Wireless transfer of a multi-gigabyte file is slow on a congested network and it is sensitive to the headset going to sleep part-way through. Route three: download directly in the headset

Two rules cover almost every player.

- Check the format is supported. If a lower-resolution copy plays and a higher one does not, suspect the codec rather than the file.
- Try a second player. Player support for containers and codecs differs, and a file one app refuses will frequently open in another.
Managing storage
A standalone headset fills up fast at these file sizes. Three habits keep it usable:
- Treat headset storage as a queue, not a library. Move a few files on, watch them, delete them, move the next few. The master copy lives on the computer.
- Delete from the headset, not just from the player. Removing an entry from a player's library does not always delete the underlying file, and storage stays occupied.

The same USB connection works both ways: with the headset mounted as storage, files can be deleted or copied back to the computer exactly as on any drive. Deleting from the computer's file view is the reliable method, because removing an entry inside a player's library does not always remove the underlying file and the space stays occupied.
